A Perfect Retreat is a Rutland water painting. Set close to the banks of the UK’s largest (by surface area) reservoir.  The Hambleton Hotel is indeed a stunning and welcoming setting for a sublime stay in England’s smallest county. In the heart of England this picturesque place plays host to contented visitors. Ones who are often very pleasantly surprised that for somewhere lesser known, they can explore a landscape not dissimilar to Cotswolds but often without the crowds.

The gardens simply spill out and beyond the countryside’s borrowed landscape which means this fabulous building and grounds enjoys a truly enviable setting.

A Passion for Whimsy & Wonder

Kerry delights in highlighting this. And of course uses her own unique and whimsical style; Though the building may be one of tradition her style is less so. Her passion for finding the character and whimsy in what she portrays on the canvas is certainly present her in this painting. Several iterations later and its finally ready to be shared with the world.

With colours carefully selected to maintain the sense of joy and wonder at the surrounding countryside and applications of fine layers helping to capture this she has been witness to words of ‘magical’ and ‘joyous’ from viewers of this work. Keeping a backdrop which suggests twilight through to midnight, also helps to lend a sense of secrecy about this scene. It is as if the viewer, taking a midnight stroll has stumbled across a hidden place, a truly Perfect Retreat.

With trees of blossom there is also a sense of charm and abundance to the gardens surrounding the building.
