Faith In Its Surroundings

This beautiful hidden Cornish gem, St Just in the Roseland has to be one of THE most spiritual places in the UK. Whether a person of faith or none, above all, its hard to imagine you will not to be affected by the setting of this small unassuming village church. As you stand there on a quiet day you can almost sense the peace that seems to be set into the very fabric of the building. A peace that emanates out from the favourable spot on which it stands.

Nestled in a valley by the waters of the creek you’ll find St Just in Roseland Church. Its beautifully tended graveside gardens grant a certain sense of eternity. It may seem surprising to you that this place of rest for the dead can simultaneously feel like one of hope. It’s a feeling that life will carry on and that we all have a part to play even if all we leave behind are our sighs on the wind and our footsteps on the path. The place will leave you with a feeling of contentment that can be unbidden but nonetheless welcome.

With its sumptuous colours and its array of textures it’s simply a painters paradise and its one that hasn’t been lost on Kerry. She records in her art, the stone and the leaves and bark and water in all their resplendent glory.

Dying to be there?

In her canvas she captures this sense of place. Key for the way Kerry has set about recording her visit. A sublime summer’s day was definitely helpful! You can see why there’s an extensive waiting list for plot spaces. Where better to spend an eternity?

As with much of Cornwall the flora is pretty unique compared to that of the wider UK. Tall palms and cordylines stretch out their branches. Meanwhile in amongst them are more commonly encountered deciduous trees. Their canopy providing a dappled shade for the foxgloves to thrive and for the fuchsias to spread. The sights and scents of the place will simply beguile you.

Walking around you can see a tree tied with ribbons and messages of prayer and hope. These are just as much part of the landscape as the headstones carefully tended by the groundsmen and women. Though all give way to the nature of the place surrounding it. This truly is a hidden Cornish gem.
