Description
Be whisked away to the Seaside
This coastal harbour artwork conjures up images of a beautiful warm sunny day spent by the sea. A sky full of billowing frothy clouds and gentle waves nibbling at the sandy shore. We’re left with the definite impression that there is much to be admired spending a day by the sea.
A sense of being place and being ‘lived in’ is shown here. A place where community thrives. Its easy to gain a sense of purpose in this scene the artist has created. Brightly coloured fisherman’s cottages nestle up against each other for support. In the meantime fishing vessels, claim their spot alongside the harbour walls.
Kerry has used been decisive in her use of colour. She has used blue throughout the painting the sky a muted mirroring of the sea below, while creamy pinks and yellows set a backdrop to the mid-section of the painting. Here, at least deeper hues have been used to create contrast and rhythm across the image, which lead our eyes to feast on all those tiny details Kerry is so fond of including in her work.
Layers have been built up only in some spaces to be scraped back again. This sgraffito technique helps to create more depth to the painting as does the use of glazes; thin layers of acrylics which serve to highlight and pinpoint things we might otherwise miss.
Work that is Happy As A Clam on the Shore
The beauty in Kerry’s work is that it keeps you coming back for more; each time noticing some small detail that you neglected to see on first glance.
As part of the ‘Harbour II’ series this beautiful evocative piece of art would sit happily with any of the others from the same set, including its sister piece ‘Beside the Quayside’. All with a complimentary colour scheme. Equally it is a pretty stand alone piece which can shine with its own star placement on your wall.
Once things is certain whether with its sister painting ‘Beside the Quayside’ or on its own, this coastal harbour artwork will keep you coming back for more!
