As the title suggests ‘Splendidly Stamford’ refers to this stunning Georgian town which sits along the banks of the Welland River. Its often referred to as Bath in miniature and if Oxford is a city of spires then this is its perfectly formed smaller sister. Kerry has managed to reference some but not all of the church towers and spires but she has included so much more, also.

In her compositions it is important to the artist that there is a balance between what to leave in and what to take out. Trying to include the whole of a place would be a very messy affair indeed and would sit well on the canvas. Making certain that key buildings and notable areas are included in the composition is important, so anyone having visited this splendid site will easily recognise them, though they are of course reproduced in Kerry’s own unique and quirky way.

No two buildings are the same. And honestly even if they were, they likely wouldn’t be on a painting that Kerry completes. As her paintings don’t include figures she often sees the buildings and landmarks as characters in their own right and so treats them as such by varying painting techniques, colour and perspective.
