The colours of this Cornish village in the last rays of summer’s evening make the image come alive. Its been said of the painting that the sky clouds seem to change in appearance within the image, as the light moves over it throughout the day. Kerry’s carefully curated colour scheme captures the essence of the golden hour visit she took which inspired the original.
Classically Cornwall and Quintessentially Beautiful
Cornish white-washed cottages and tiles of grey blue evoke memories which typify the place in which this is set. As you look across the higgedly piggeldy rooftops you can catch a glimpse of boats waiting patiently for their owners down by the harbour walls. The fishing village itself packs a real punch for its diminutive size. Filled with eateries, and of a few good old English pubs, its also renowned for its music – Fishermans Friends and for its TV appearances in Doc Martin.
All of the buildings in this painting have been inspired by ones that truly exist and if you were to visit this lovely cove you’d be able to go building bagging and cross them off a list! When Kerry recreates a place in her work she does so with a mind to conjuring up for the viewer the sense of the place she experienced. Sitting on a naturally steep slope on the edge of the North Atlantic Coast this tiny fishing village almost stands in defiance to its surroundings. It has over the centuries no doubt collected its strength from the communities who have endured there.
Like the people, each one of the buildings has its own personality and this is reflected in the whimsical quirky style that is presented in this print of the Cornish Coast.
