Full of Whimsy & Joy!
No artist expresses a joy and whimsy of a quirky English village, quite in the way that Kerry does. This Cambridgeshire naïve artwork is no exception. Showcasing the beauty of a small village with its oversized Mill, ‘An Ouse So Pretty Day Out’ Houghton, is set to bring smiles of joy.
Kerry endeavours, always, to find the character in each of the buildings that go to make up the landscape she is depicting. Here thatch, timber-framed and Victorian dwellings sit alongside the banks of the River Ouse. It’s along this river that many stop to admire the rather grand and imposing sight of Houghton Mill. Owned by the National Trust this Cambridgeshire gem brings in visitors from near and far to admire its one-of-a-kind character.
A Painting & Place Oozing Charm:
No visit is complete however without a stop in the adjoining village, with its Reading Room Gallery and Tea Rooms sitting in close proximity to the Green. This charming village feels quintessentially British and its this which Kerry has captured with a sense of joy, playfulness and whimsy.
Despite its lack of actual green on THE GREEN the village does give off vibes of being in the countryside. Chocolate box cottages vie for space in amongst the English country gardens. Kerry has carefully chosen her colour palette to reflect this. Warm brick reds and oranges, contrast with the lime-washed walls of the thatched cottages. A glowing sky helps to highlight and contrast the blue of the river. And all of this is interspersed with splashes of varying greens across the canvas.
Sgraffito and glazes have been employed throughout as have the smallest of details with the teeniest of brushes. No details have been missed though Kerry carefully edits her work to give the greatest of impact to the picture before you.
Her work encapsulates the feeling of a lovely amble along the lanes, among the buildings. This stunning vibrant and contemporary Cambridgeshire naïve artwork is one which will be enjoyed for decades.
