Your Chance to Own It !
This Naïve painting of a Cambridgeshire village with its National Trust Mill is full of contemporary joy and whimsical character. Strolling from the Green to the Mill is a happy little jaunt into the wonderful world of the Cambridgeshire countryside landscape.
As with many of her works Kerry has studied the buildings that she then takes as the main focus for her painting. The quintessential English pub plays a main character, I mean who doesn’t want a quick stop off in the local? – alongside the other buildings in the picture. Of course including the famous Mill and the Reading Room gallery, waiting for you to spot them!
Detail and Awesomeness abound:
Kerry has re-created these characterful buildings in her painting taking care and time to add the finest of details where she deems it necessary. In some cases individual bricks and tiles have been painted while in others she has used sgraffito techniques to reveal the glowing colours in the layers underneath.
Kerry always considers her colour palette carefully as she wants to show the place she is painting off to its best. Here she has settled on an inviting warmer palette. The only really cool tones to be found are the sharp whites in the older buildings and the blue of the River Ouse on which Houghton Mill sits. This helps to focus the eye onto the details within the painting so that each time you look you find something more to enjoy.
Her clever use of space and deliberate disregard for perspective, help to convey the joy to be had in meandering along the banks of the River Ouse and ambling around the village of Houghton. Its an image which invites the viewer in and to experience the same joy of the place that many others have had before.
If you look at any of the artworks of real places that Kerry has used as inspiration and you can find great pleasure in knowing that this is her artist interpretation of those spaces that actually DO exist. This Naïve painting of a Cambridgeshire village is no exception but as a whimsical joy-filled landscape piece of art, it is exceptional!
