Description

A Captivating Coastal Village

Walk along the southern most point of the Cornish Coast and you’ll stumble upon the cove of Cadgwith. In this contemporary Naïve Coastal Art you can see all its key features.

The whitewashed fishermans’ cottages. The shingle and sandy beach. All adorned with the paraphernalia of its historic fishing industry. When you are visiting Cadgwith its hard not to be intoxicated by its English, Cornish quaintness.

A typical Cornish village has been captured here but for you, she’s kept to her message that this place is to be treasured and appreciated for all its simplicity and modesty.

Its All About the Colour and Quirk

Kerry Loves to play about with the unexpected and to bend the rules. Its what makes her art not only Naïve in style but also unique. The playfulness she exerts with colour and perspective are to be valued.

Here she has stepped away from the traditional blues typical of seascape artwork. You can see she has instead, used a warm colour palette with a deliberate absence of blue. That’s a confident choice for an artist conveying the message that this precious landscape can be enjoyed in twilight hours as well as in the glare of the midday sun.

Sleepier purples and pinks have been used instead so that you look more closely at the image before you. The unexpected makes you think more about the image before you.  The colours of the land are also reflected in the sea and sky. It is against these that the white washed cottages of the cove simultaneously stand out but nestle into the work.

Her work is a joyful celebration of the landscape, sea and coastline and in this contemporary naïve coastal art it is certainly the case.
