Spending Your Time In Heaven Helford
Helford is known to the locals as a more secret seaside retreat. It has some of the best walks. This tidal estuary is comparatively peaceful. Especially in the height summer when thousands of tourists are flocking elsewhere onto the more well-known beaches. Meanwhile Kerry Couldn’t resist recording this tucked away place far from the madding crowds. Painted of course in her unique whimsical Naïve style.
Inspired by a recent visit this hidden gem packs a real punch. A walk along this stretch of coast known as the ‘Salt Path’ to some, will take you onto bijou beaches. These beaches as you will discover, are filled with the teeniest of shells and an array of other flotsom. They’re magical hidden coves where small boats can land on the shore. The canopy of trees and lush ferns come within touching distance of the shore line. It is this place which also inspired the writing by Daphne du Maurier for her novel ‘Frenchman’s Creek’.
Creative and Inspiring
Indeed if you’re a creative its hard to imagine a more inspirational place hence why Kerry found it impossible to resist when recreating the scene in rich acrylics on canvas. Taking a walk along this length of the South West Coast path feels pretty unique as much of it is framed by the plants and trees that are in lush abundance here.
At it heart is the small Riverside village of Helford itself and many of the homes and buildings are featured in this painting including the wonderful Shipwritghts Arms and also the Holy Mackerel café which is situated right next to the car park where you can begin your journey around this picturesque quiet spot in the Cornish coastal countryside.
As with all here landscape paintings Kerry has used a range of techniques on the canvas to build up layers and keep the viewer studying ever closer, the surface of the canvas. As with its sister painting ‘Serenity’ her clever use of the trees as a frame for the composition has the ability to draw the eye in to canvas and out again with the distant horizon.
It is a painting of peace and joy that celebrates this secret seaside retreat at its finest.
