Dreaming Of Warm Sunny Days By The Sea

One of the ‘Harbour II Collection’, ‘Beside the Quayside’ is a stunning piece of artwork; a beautiful fishing village painting. The typical blues of the coast have been captured and used to great effect by the artist.

Kerry has spent time carefully curating a palette that can work across a multiple number of pieces for a harmonious effect while simultaneously making sure each individual work of art stands up on its own merits.

She has chosen to use a variation on the primary colours of cyan, yellow and magenta as the main ingredients for these works of art. Softer muted versions of these colours such as the creamy yellows in the sands and pastel hues of pinks and blues in the skies and sea, play on our sense of serenity, that these pigments evoke.

Its All In The Details

In this piece ‘Beside the Quayside’ the acylic paint sings out from the canvas surface. By cutting back or ‘scraping’ into underlayers (sgraffito) Kerry makes you look closely at the details. There are too, thin layers or ‘glazes’ applied in some small areas, again to draw you in as the viewer. Intent on making you notice the painting in a way that at first glance you may have missed.

The surface becomes a means to amplify the idea behind the image; that this painting is evocative of a bustling fishing town, somewhere inhabited by a community. By using these techniques on the surface across the artwork, it reflects the way in which people are intrinsically drawn together through their experience of living along the coast.

As with all the paintings in this series this would sit happily alongside any of the ‘Harbour II Collection’ but in particular with its sister image ‘By the Seashore’. Their complimentary colours and coastal harbour style, all conjure up warm sunny days spent on the coast. Each picturesque fishing village painting including this one, is set to keep you smiling for many days to come.
