Picture Perfect Palms
Essentially as with all her Port Isaac paintings Kerry has added many refined details on this small scale to make ‘Port Isaac Palm’ perfect for your home. In this beautiful seaside inspired coastal mini art, she has opted for a limited colour palette which echo those found in and around the fishing village of Port Isaac.
On asking many people what colours spring to mind when thinking about this coastal village, many respond white and blue.
Taking as her inspiration, the many houses and buildings that she has observed on her coastal walks. Crucially these play an important roles in her works. Therefore, this smallest of paintings focuses on just one of these. It is the artists way of honouring the character of the place. Kerry has adapted them to her own unique style of naïve art. It is in this sense that she captures the Naïve tradition of painting those places where the land meets the sea. This cottage is one which can be found in her larger paintings of Port Isaac. Artworks such as ‘Star Spangled Sea’ and Stargazy, Port Isaac’. Each time of painting she puts her own spin on these special seaside homes.
White-washing the walls
The whitewashed walls are retained as she makes sure her artwork is in keeping with that which she represents. As you wonder through the whimsical meandering streets of Port Isaac many of them have been painted white. Distinguished often by the colourful doors and windows or by their minute gardens.
This being the warmest stretch of coast in the UK Kerry has honoured this by adding a palm to the composition, the like of which can be viewed nestling cheek by jowl along the narrows lanes and gardens of this picturesque harbour town. The turquoise green of the palm fronds also serve to reflect the colour of the water surrounding this tiny port.
